National Links Trust Secures D.C. Golf Courses in Federal Pact
The National Links Trust announced late Friday that the Trump administration agreed to keep Washington, D.C.'s three public golf courses open, accessible and affordable. The trust gains long-term leases for two courses and will operate East Potomac Golf Links until federal officials undertake a historic restoration.
The administration earlier sought control, citing the trust's failure to assure the National Park Service of adequate funding and capital plans. The trust continued operations amid the dispute, which included the administration's push to upgrade East Potomac into a U.S. Open-caliber venue. Preservation advocates sued after debris from White House renovations tested positive for lead on the site.
The National Park Service described the overhaul as creating a top-tier 18-hole championship course capable of hosting major tournaments. The trust expressed gratitude for the resolution, noting job security for staff and a commitment to manage the historic sites.
The Washington Commanders foundation partners with the trust at nearby Langston Golf Course, close to the team's planned RFK Stadium site set for 2030.
