The Edmonton Oilers announced that center Leon Draisaitl sustained a lower-body injury during the first period of their game against the Nashville Predators on Sunday and is expected to miss the remainder of the regular season.[1][2]
The team did not specify whether Draisaitl would be available for the playoffs. The regular season is scheduled to conclude on April 16.[3][4]
Draisaitl, a 29-year-old German-born center drafted third overall by the Oilers in 2014, has been a key contributor since joining the club.[5][6] He won the Hart Memorial Trophy as NHL MVP for the 2019-20 season.[5][7]
The Oilers reached the Stanley Cup Final in 2024, losing in seven games to the Florida Panthers.[8][9] Edmonton competes in the NHL's Pacific Division.
The injury occurred as the Oilers held a playoff position in the Western Conference standings.[1][2]
