Bears Lose Sweat To Two-Game PED Suspension
The Chicago Bears will be without defensive lineman Montez Sweat for two games after the NFL suspended him for violating the league's Performance-Enhancing Substances Policy, the team announced Tuesday. Sweat will forfeit pay for both contests, according to the club's statement reported by NFL Media.
The suspension lands a day after Chicago's 31-7 loss to the division-rival Green Bay Packers. Sweat will sit out the Bears' Week 6 road game against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday and their Week 7 Thursday night home matchup against the New England Patriots on October 22. futsal betting
Sweat has recorded two sacks and seven combined tackles through five games this season. Chicago's defense ranks ninth in the league in total yards allowed per game and is tied for fifth in points allowed, while sitting tied for 13th in sacks. Last season, Sweat posted 10 sacks, three forced fumbles, five passes defended and 53 tackles. The Bears acquired him from the Washington Commanders during the 2023 season in exchange for a 2024 second-round pick; he is currently in the third year of a four-year, $98 million contract.
Chicago, now 3-2, has already been navigating adversity at quarterback, with Caleb Williams sidelined since Week 2 by a Grade 2 hamstring strain. Tyson Bagent and Case Keenum have split starts in his absence, and Williams is expected back in the coming weeks. Sweat's absence adds further strain to a defense that will need to carry the Bears through a stretch without one of its top pass rushers.
